ABOUT US

The Athletic online sports gear & goods retail store stems from a pre-Internet, shop some might now call an “offline” one.
This one was founded in 1950 when an 18-year-old former professional baseball player Tim Timson was working at an Army surplus store in a little town in the state of Illinois.
A passionate fisherman himself, Tim then met another fishing (and baseball) enthusiast Mark Markson, who asked for his opinion for what a professional fishing sports store stock should look like. After Tim presented his suggestions Mark decided to invite him onboard his small retail venture, which Tim has gladly agreed upon…
Eventually amassing a then-huge sum of $400 (which, adjusted for inflation, means around 45000 dollars by current standards) Tim used that money and his relentless work-ethic to open a bait-and-tackle shop in Binghamton. By 1958, his store became a chain of stores in 3 states and expanded to include multiple other sports gear and goods for sale (and rent).
Edward, Tim’s son, who now holds a position of the company’s CEO and Chairman has followed in his dad’s footprints…
Nowadays, this whole sports emporium consists of dozens of retail locations across the US, just as well this vibrant online e-commerce version of it. These days the store is full-line sporting goods retailer offering a broad assortment of brand name sporting goods equipment, apparel, and footwear in a specialty store environment.
Whether you’re gonna kick a football, hit the tennis ball over a net, score a slamdunk with a baseball or pitch a perfect 1st base run, we’ll be able to equip you for that!
